Did you know 60 percent of restaurants don’t make it past their first year and 80 percent go out of business within five years? We’re here to change that!
Liven's mission is to develop a cutting-edge technology platform that empowers hospitality to innovate and transform through the digital revolution. We're building innovative technology online and taking it offline, reinvigorating memorable consumer experiences in the physical restaurant, delivered by the brands, powered by the Liven platform.
We believe it’s time for restaurants to get the balance of power back in their favor. So they finally get to own meaningful relationships with their customers, while also locking in revenue & cash flow from them ahead of time.
We’re a VC-backed startup with merchant partners including Calia, Din Tai Fung, Messina, Burger Project, Fratelli Fresh, CoCo Tea, New Shanghai, Lanzhou Beef Noodle, Papparich, NeNe Chicken, and 8Bit across Australia. We have 700,000+ app downloads and the Liven app is rated 4.9 on the app store. We also share the same seed and series A investors as Zoom, Facebook, Canva, Wish, Airbnb, Netscape, and Zynga; just to name a few.

About the Work
To help us achieve our vision, we are looking for someone to fill a pivotal role on the team. We need a seasoned and motivated senior software engineer to join us and help craft the future of Liven.
We are in the process of migrating from the monolithic service world to a more modular, distributed one, using microservices. We are transitioning to an event-driven architecture as that best reflects the way that our business works. Our new services have been written with this in mind, but currently we lack the ability to tie them all together in scale. We’ve selected Kafka to act as our event service, and you will help us design and implement the improved Liven backend.
You’ll make decisions about existing tools and processes we have and guide us through. You will be strategically reviewing our environment, recommending, and implementing solutions to address any weaknesses. You’ll also be instrumental in taking us from Australia to the rest of the world. We need to be able to reliably stand up Liven in different regions.
There’s a huge scope for you to work on highly impactful systems. You will recommend the path forward for us in terms of our backend, and have autonomy to make the best decisions for the business. We are a tight engineering team with a range of skill sets. You will be taking an important role in helping us mature technically, and mature as a business. You’ll need to take the initiative and lead projects instinctively, with transparent communication and collaboration.
Frameworks, Tools and Platforms:
You’ll have had at least 5 years of experience in software engineering of backend services and have the confidence to make recommendations on these systems and implementations to the team and leadership. You’re not coming into a large team, and a lot of our processes and systems need to be defined or refined, so you’ll need to have the skills and experience to know what is needed to successfully run, monitor, and deploy the backend, as well as balance business and technical requirements. To do that, we’ll expect you to understand tradeoffs between various approaches and explain them to others on the team, to have strong system design skills, and be able to communicate your opinion to others successfully. Experience in Python, Java, or Haskell would be great, but if you are across your craft the language you write in doesn’t matter.
Liven is a diverse and inclusive workplace. We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or other legally protected status.
